Inarticulate people use "cuss words" in place of the words they lack to express themselves. This isn't an option for JW's (at least while they're praying) so to make up for lack of content, they insert the word Jehovah to flesh out their prayers. Praying in front of others isn't an easy thing to do and coming up with new material each time is even worse.

I don’t know about how the virus has effected them so far but I’m sure the folks at headquarters are patting themselves on the back for having moved out of the city before this hit. Calling it Jehovah’s Direction that they sold off the properties and moved out of the city before the virus struck and the stock market tanked.

This is what JWs do they predict then try to put square pegs in round holes like they did in 1914. They predicted the end of the world but WW1 started so that was the prediction
Confirmation bias:The tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of ones existing beliefs/theories.
In 1957 when the first satellite was launched into space, JW's said it confirmed the Bible's end time prediction that there'd be fearful signs from the heavens in the last days.
Frequency Illusion/Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon: A cognitive bias which describes our tendency to see new information, names, ideas or patterns 'everywhere' after they're first brought to our attention.
Rather than seeing earthquakes, hurricanes, diseases, food shortages as isolated incidents, for the past 100+ years, JW's have been on the lookout for signs and have shoe horned every unfavorable global occurrence into being signs of the time of the end. They even view normalcy or favorable occurrences (peace and security) as a sign of the end. If mankind accomplishes something good, they say it's because Satan is trying to mislead them into thinking they don't need God. It's a win win set up for JW's.

New Light!
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara inyes this could very much be a reality in the following months, the washtowel will spin this corona crisis this way using isaiah 26 : 20 " go my people enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until this wrath has passed by".. as it is they seem so hyped up about the gt !.
i will be surprised if after this crisis is over they will literally use this verse to cover over why this was not the final day of the final days of the end of the end of the short end times!.
zing.

On one hand (when it comes to scaring up contributions) they acknowledge that JW's will have much to endure during the "tribulation" and on the other hand (just when they can't take anymore fear mongering) they find a scripture that tell's them that they'll somehow be hidden away until it's all over.
It's part of the "scare em' and then make em' feel safe so they stick around" tactic that is part and parcel of the religion racket.

Do You Think Trump Is Doing.A Good Job Dealing With The Coronavirus?
by minimus inwho needs a press secretary when the president details what is happening every day to keep us informed?
i think he’s doing a very good job considering what is happening in the usa and the world..

It kinda' depends on the day. Sometimes during his press conferences I marvel at his composure under the circumstances and other times, I have to look hard for honest facts in the information he's trying to convey and hope that he's not blowing smoke up our collective a**es.
Overall, I think we're going to come out of this somewhat scathed, but all the more wiser.

Next we'll probably experience famine
by wannabefree inthis morning my wife made the comment ... "we'll probably experience famine next.".
i don't know that she'd come up with this on her own.
has anyone else heard a jw talking about this?.

This morning my wife made the comment ... "We'll probably experience famine next."
Me: (if my wife ever said something like that) "Well thank you for that little day brighter, honey. I'll bet you're a lot of fun at a party"
This thread reminds me of how every year someone invariably says "I heard" that it's going to be a really bad winter this year because the farmer's almanac predicted it and they've seen that the fur on certain animals is getting thicker."
These folks like the momentary bit of power it gives them over someone else's happiness and they think they sound more interesting, when they get to deliver bad news.

How Come we never saw this before????
by Newly Enlightened inoh my goodness!
how come we never thought of this before?
if the israelites had animals to sacrifice to jehovah in the wilderness, then how come their god jehovah had to give them manna so they wouldn't starved to death?.
-
Pete Zahut
Second, did they see their livestock as their source of income?
40 years wandering in the wilderness, who needs an income and what was there to buy out there? Who were they going to sell their livestock to? Each other? What other Israelite would buy and animal if they weren't planning to use them for food ? If they did have cows to milk and chickens eggs, how badly were they starving?
. Perhaps they were preserving their flocks and herds for when they came into the Promised Land
If they had livestock they could have bred them. They were in the wilderness for 40 years....their existing animals would have died of old age by the time they got there if they didn't breed them. So why not eat them if they had them?
A case in point is the fact that the clothes and shoes of the Israelites did not wear out in the 40 years of desert wandering because God saw to it. The manna stayed fresh so long as the people gathered it up according to His instructions, and water came out of a rock for them
If he went to all that trouble providing a miracle for their shoes and clothes, why not provide them with a variety of things to eat for 40 long years or was his purpose to keep them alive so they could be miserable? Did he make the water he provided for them bitter so that it would keep them alive but they'd hate it?
We are not to worry about food because God knows what we need before we ask.
What's the purpose of "Making or Petitions known to God" then?
Rather, we are to seek God and His kingdom, putting Him first and trusting in His faithfulness to provide what we need.
Maybe that's why the folks at JW headquarters are doing so well. They certainly don't starve at Bethel or want for anything. They have hearty meals, tennis courts and swimming pools and and they all live in a resort out in the country. Good thing Jehovah is providing them with what they "need" because the Governing Body members I sat with for every meal while I was there, certainly wouldn't have stuck around if they had to eat oatmeal every day and sleep on mats on the floor or eat whatever the local JW's could spare for them. They wouldn't put up with having to travel by bus to make their personal appearances. They "needed" Lincoln Town Cars and they "needed" to travel in first class accommodations. Jehovah knows this and according to you, provides it for them, otherwise they'd be long gone.

Testing For Transparency - An Honesty Check
by Vanderhoven7 inplease share any other yes/no questions that might fit with the following 10. also feel free to critique the 10 listed.. testing for transparency.
there are some facts that jehovah's witnesses are reticent to divulge to new prospects.
you may want to find out very early in your discussions if the witnesses you are studying with are open and truthful about their organization's doctrine and practices by asking them a series of sensitive (potentially embarrassing) questions about their personal beliefs.

- Are Young people who grew up as JW's encouraged or even allowed to look into other religions before they get baptized?
- People who leave their religion to become a Jehovah's Witness often get opposition from their families and are sometimes disowned. Do you think their families are right to do this?
- Are JW's allowed to see in detail how their donations are allocated and what they're invested in.
